The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formalized a $7 million agreement with UNICEF to support humanitarian efforts in Sudan and South Sudan. The funding includes $6 million for Sudan and $1 million for South Sudan, underscoring the UAE's commitment to mitigating catastrophic conditions in these war-torn countries.
The conflict in Sudan has evolved into a dire crisis affecting children, with 13.6 million urgently needing help. Over half of the more than six million displaced individuals are children, positioning Sudan as the epicenter of the world's largest child displacement crisis. The UAE's financial support will enable UNICEF to provide essential services such as primary health care, quality water, and education, including early learning programs.
Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, emphasized the UAE's dedication to assisting vulnerable populations. "Through this agreement with UNICEF, we are reinforcing our dedication to providing life-saving assistance and ensuring that children have access to essential services," Al Hashimy stated. The UAE has demonstrated its commitment through various humanitarian actions, including participation in Sudan talks in Geneva, and providing $230 million in aid, alongside numerous relief efforts and field hospitals. The UAE continues to call for a ceasefire and urges dialogue for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
