The Islamabad High Court has drawn attention to the city's recurring road blockages, labeling it a 'container city.' This criticism came during a hearing reported by Pakistan-based daily, Dawn.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq hinted that a show cause notice might be issued to the Chief Commissioner over the issue. Farooq remarked on the inconvenience caused to commuters, noting that poor arrangements led to daily struggles for those trying to access Constitution Avenue.
During a contempt plea hearing filed by Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), it was revealed that the administration cancelled their NOC for a public meeting. Farooq expressed frustration over traffic delays, emphasizing that such blockages were not desirable. PTI's Counsel alleged that the NOC was pulled at the last minute despite prior permission.
The Advocate General cited a law and order situation as the reason for cancellation. However, Farooq stressed that organizers should be informed of any security issues well in advance, acknowledging that party leaders wouldn't jeopardize the safety of their workers.
Assuring PTI that the NOC for a September 10 event would not be revoked, the Advocate General concluded the hearing.
