US Embassy in New Delhi spokesperson Christopher Elms visited the exiled Tibetan community in Dharamshala and urged China to engage in direct negotiations with the Dalai Lama or his representatives, without any preconditions.
During his visit, Elms toured the Tibet Museum, Buddhist monasteries, and the offices of the Central Tibetan Administration. He also met with representatives from the Indian and Tibetan media to discuss the US Resolve Act, which President Joe Biden signed into law in July. Elms emphasized that the Act aims to protect the human rights of the Tibetan people and urged China for renewed dialogue.
The visit follows the Dalai Lama's recent return to Dharamshala after knee surgery in the US, where he met with several US officials, including the special coordinator for Tibetan issues, Uzra Zeya. The meeting reaffirmed the US support for Tibetan human rights and cultural preservation.
