In a significant diplomatic engagement, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar welcomed Chile's Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren to New Delhi for the India-Chile Joint Commission meeting. The two ministers underscored the depth of the bilateral relationship and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between the two nations.
During his opening remarks, Jaishankar highlighted Chile's valuable contributions to the Voice of Global South Summits and commended President Gabriel Boric for his insightful comments at the third summit held on August 17. He also expressed gratitude for Chile's support for India's bid for permanent membership in the expanded Security Council.
The meeting, following a previous virtual session conducted amid the COVID-19 pandemic, provided an opportunity for in-person discussions. Topics included trade, economic collaboration, and future avenues for cooperation. The Chilean delegation, led by Minister van Klaveren, was greeted warmly by MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal upon their arrival. Van Klaveren will also attend the Chile-India Business (Agriculture) Summit in Mumbai before concluding his official visit.
