On Tuesday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar congratulated Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi on Moldova's Independence Day. Jaishankar shared his message in a post on X, expressing eagerness to further strengthen friendly ties between India and Moldova.

The bilateral relationship between India and Moldova has seen significant growth through high-level interactions, economic collaborations, and cultural exchanges. A notable milestone was Moldova opening its Resident Mission in New Delhi in June 2023, highlighting Moldova's commitment to deepening its engagement with India. This sentiment has been echoed in various economic and diplomatic events over the past year.

Moldova has demonstrated a robust interest in fostering economic ties with India, actively participating in major events such as the 3rd International SME Convention in March 2023, the 6th Global Exhibition on Services in November 2023, and the UP International Trade Show in September 2023. Additionally, discussions at the India-Moldova Trade Forum in November 2022, and participation in the 11th International Silk Fair in July 2022 have further strengthened trade relations.

Capacity-building initiatives have also played a crucial role. Moldovan diplomats benefitted from the ITEC Scholarship Program, and India contributed USD 1 million under the India-UN Development Partnership Fund for Moldova's statistical system. Members of the Moldovan Parliament participated in the GenNext Democracy Network Programme by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

Cultural connectivity has been enriched by the Indian diaspora in Moldova, with events such as the 'Impressions from India' photo exhibition and the 10th International Day of Yoga. These initiatives underscore the robust and dynamic relationship between India and Moldova, paving the way for future cooperation across various sectors.
