In a significant political development, a delegation from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) met with Maulana Fazlur Rehman of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) to discuss potential cooperation, ARY News reported, citing sources. The move aims to bridge existing differences and explore collaborative possibilities between the two factions.
During the meeting, discussions centered on forming committees to facilitate joint efforts in Parliament. PTI emphasized the need for in-house cooperation, arguing that a united front could challenge the government effectively. JUI-F, however, insisted that any final decisions would follow comprehensive internal discussions. Spokespersons from both parties confirmed the ongoing talks and the establishment of committees to manage parliamentary affairs.
PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan indicated that the talks included collaboration on significant legislative issues. He confirmed that both parties have agreed to continue their dialogue and work jointly on parliamentary matters. JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri echoed these sentiments, stressing that the committees formed will play an essential role in sustaining future meetings and cooperation.
The meeting marks a crucial juncture for potential PTI-JUI-F collaboration as they navigate Pakistan's complex parliamentary landscape. Prior to this, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi criticized the current government's alleged repression tactics against PTI. He argued that Pakistan's political stability hinges on recognizing Imran Khan's role in the country's politics.
Qureshi, speaking informally with journalists at Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail, emphasized the widespread legal actions against him post-May 9 riots, asserting his longstanding political career had been free from legal charges until recently. He condemned past practices of labeling dissenters as 'traitors' and called for dialogue to address Balochistan's issues. Responding to the opposition's mediator criticism, he defended Mahmood Khan Achakzai's democratic credentials.
