India has called for a comprehensive convention on international terrorism, stressing its crucial role in global conflict prevention. Speaking at the United Nations Security Council Open Debate on 'The New Agenda for Peace,' Deputy Permanent Representative R Ravindra underscored the necessity for a holistic approach to address the multifaceted nature of modern conflicts.

Ravindra highlighted the disparity in global peace and security, noting some regions thrive while others suffer continuous conflict. He pointed out that terrorism, armed militias, organized criminal groups, and emerging technologies exacerbate these situations, requiring a multidimensional strategy that includes sustainable development and inclusive economic growth.

The envoy also stressed the importance of working closely with national governments, promoting representative and inclusive governance, and fostering strong partnerships between the United Nations and regional organizations. He criticized the lack of African representation in the UN Security Council and reaffirmed India's support for the Ezulwini consensus. Moreover, Ravindra pointed out India's substantial contributions to peacekeeping and developmental projects, advocating for structural reforms in financial institutions and fulfillment of climate finance commitments.
