President Droupadi Murmu hailed the long-standing relationship between India and Fiji, spotlighting the Indian diaspora's significant contributions as a global inspiration. She praised India's initiatives to deepen these ties during a speech to the Indian community in Fiji on Tuesday.

Speaking at the event, President Murmu emphasized the special bond between India and Fiji, which dates back 145 years. She commended the Indian government's decision to issue Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards to strengthen connections with the diaspora further.

Murmu lauded the historic success of India's G-20 Presidency, stressing India's leadership on the global stage. She thanked the Fiji government for recognizing the contributions of Girmits and their descendants by declaring 'Fiji Day'. Murmu, honored with 'The Order of Fiji', will continue her visit to New Zealand and Timor-Leste.
