Following his knee surgery in June, Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama is making a commendable recovery, according to Dr. David Mayman, MD, Chief of the Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement Service at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Dr. Mayman visited him over the weekend and had positive updates.
Dr. Mayman shared that the Dalai Lama is actively engaging in physical therapy and this diligent effort is propelling his recovery. "His Holiness is recovering well," he confirmed, noting significant improvements that are expected to continue for up to a year post-surgery.
Dalai Lama detailed his progress in a post on social media, revealing that he underwent successful knee replacement surgery on June 28 and is committed to his recovery regimen. The Tibetan leader arrived in New York on June 24, after a stop in Zurich where he was warmly welcomed by the local Tibetan community and his well-wishers.
In Switzerland, he received a traditional Tibetan welcome upon his arrival at a Zurich hotel, greeted by the community, where he exchanged pleasantries with an old friend. Thousands of well-wishers, armed with bouquets, waited eagerly to welcome him, accompanied by performances of traditional songs and dances by Tibetan artists.
