In a post on 'X,' the UAA announced, 'Join us for the screening of the documentary 'Behind the Mask,' featuring the story of Uyghur scholar and former political prisoner Abduweli Ayup, followed by a Q&A discussion. Looking forward to seeing you there!' Directed and written by Havard Bustnes, the 31-minute documentary, released in 2023, chronicles Ayup's journey to Germany, where he meets a former internment camp prison guard involved in his torture. Before his departure, Ayup's daughter suffers a panic attack.

Ayup faces a poignant dilemma: whether to remain with his family or continue his mission to spotlight the Uyghur genocide, or to leave behind traumatic memories.
