The Indian Navy's submarine, INS Shalki, arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka for a two-day visit from August 2 to 4, the Indian Navy announced. The vessel received a ceremonial reception from the Sri Lanka Navy upon its arrival on August 2.
The 64.4-meter long submarine, commanded by Commander Rahul Patnaik and crewed by 40 personnel, will host an awareness program on its operational capabilities for the Sri Lankan Navy during its stay. The Colombo visit also offers opportunities for the crew to explore local tourist attractions.
The itinerary includes a scheduled visit from the Commanding Officer to meet with Rear Admiral WDCU Kumarasinghe, Commander of the Western Naval Area. Additionally, the visit will feature interactions onboard the submarine for Sri Lankan Navy personnel and delegates from the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka. The visit highlights the enduring 2500-year old cultural, religious, and intellectual ties between India and Sri Lanka.
