External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted on Friday that rising nationalism is a major force in reshaping global affairs, leading to independence, growth, rebalancing, and the rise of multipolarity. He urged India to carefully evaluate global events to make choices beneficial to the country amidst global divides and competitive power plays.

Addressing the 7th Jasjit Singh Memorial Lecture at the Centre for Air Power Studies in New Delhi, Jaishankar emphasized that the world is becoming increasingly nationalistic, marked by greater individualism. He underlined that nationalism remains a contentious term, especially in regions adhering to old globalization ideals, but it is crucial for recognizing the frustrations of many developed nations faced with declining quality of life due to poor geopolitical decisions.

The External Affairs Minister pointed out that nationalism has spurred significant socio-political shifts, especially in developing countries. He asserted that India must focus on its national interests, which often align with global benefits, given its strong ties with the Global South. Emphasizing a multi-vector foreign policy, Jaishankar stated that India's growing economic stature necessitates active participation in global stabilization efforts through rules, regimes, and law.
