The Navy of the Philippines and Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) conducted their first bilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA) in the West Philippines Sea on Friday. The initiative aimed to enhance regional and international cooperation, ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific amid China's expansionism, stated the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
The naval drills featured vessels BRP Jose Rizal FF 150 and JS Sazanami, focusing on communication, tactical maneuvers, and photography exercises. The AFP highlighted that the exercise improved both navies' tactical capabilities and reinforced their commitment to regional peace and stability, showcasing their dedication to a rules-based international order.
As China continues its territorial ambitions in the Pacific, the Japan-Philippines exercise arrives at a crucial time. Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence recently detected 66 Chinese military aircraft and vessels near the island, heading to a military exercise in the Western Pacific. Taiwan's Defence Minister assured that the situation is closely monitored, reflecting widespread regional alarm over China's actions.
