The ongoing demonstration at the Sost dry port in Pakistan-occupied Gilgit Baltistan (PoGB) is causing severe disruption for tourists attempting to pass through the area, as reported by the Pamir Times on Wednesday. Now in its third day, the protest has left numerous foreign nationals stranded, awaiting customs clearance.

Customs activities at the port have been halted due to the demonstration. Reports indicate that no customs officials have addressed the issue. The protest, organized by traders involved in cross-border trade with China, stems from allegations of illegal tax imposition, despite a court order prohibiting such taxes until a final judicial decision. Traders claim that customs officers and the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) are delaying the order's implementation.

Foreign nationals, including Chinese tourists, have been left with no recourse but to contact their embassies. One protester reported that bus services previously allowed some to cross the border, but customs operations have now completely stopped. A Quetta trader detailed prolonged waits for clearance, accusing officials of accepting bribes and allowing selective border crossings. Protesters demand enforcement of the court order, threatening to escalate the protest if their demands are not met.
