An accountability court in Rawalpindi extended the physical remand of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, by 10 days in the Toshakhana case, according to Geo News on Monday. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) presented the couple after their previous seven-day remand expired and submitted a progress report on the newly filed case.

NAB Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi and investigative deputy director Mohsin Haroon attended the hearing. Defence lawyer Salman Safdar opposed the remand extension sought by the anti-graft body.

A heated exchange occurred between the former premier and the NAB prosecutor. Imran Khan claimed his wife had no connections to the Toshakhana case, questioning why she was being punished. He asserted that Bushra wasn't a public officeholder during his tenure. He accused NAB officials of corruption, with Abbasi challenging Khan to buy a dinner and tea set for PKR 30,000 from Raja Bazar, referencing state gifts received from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The court adjourned proceedings until August 8, directing NAB to present Imran and Bushra at the next hearing. The 71-year-old PTI founder has been in prison for almost a year amid multiple cases. While his sentence in the Toshakhana case was suspended, new charges have been filed. Prospects for his release were dimmed by his arrest in May 9 riot-linked cases following acquittals in other charges.
