Specially-abled individuals in Pakistan-occupied Gilgit Baltistan (PoGB) have voiced their discontent with the local administration, alleging a severe 'lack of social apathy' towards their issues, according to a report by Pamir Times.

During a meeting with the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) held in Hunza, PoGB, the specially-abled attendees lamented the lack of facilities and inconsistent data. The meeting was attended by PoGB's Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development, Dilshad Bano. Discrepancies were noted in the data, with government sources reporting 1,000 specially-abled individuals while private data indicated around 1,800.

A specially-abled member stated that incorrect data hampers their ability to receive grants from the local administration. 'The data has been wrong for a long time, someone who has a back issue is also included, and someone with weak eyesight due to old age is also included,' he said, criticizing the lack of expert data collection.

The activist highlighted additional issues such as financial and medical constraints, noting that officials seldom take the time to understand their needs. He also mentioned that despite a quota for job opportunities, specially-abled individuals are forced to compete with non-disabled individuals in unsuitable exams.

Another female activist criticized the education system for not catering to the needs of specially-abled individuals, emphasizing the need for special resource centers and teachers. She called on the government to allocate more funds for their welfare, arguing it is the state's responsibility to support them.
