External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar officially inaugurated the Mediclinic project at Grand Bois in Mauritius on Wednesday, emphasizing the longstanding and growing friendship between India and Mauritius. The new healthcare initiative, supported by an Indian grant, aims to provide secondary medical care for 16,000 residents in the Grand Bois area.

"This project is the latest testament to our enduring friendship and will significantly impact the health of 16,000 people in the Grand Bois area. We are extremely proud to partner in this collaborative effort," Jaishankar stated during the inauguration. He stressed the importance of healthcare, noting that it has become a global priority and a fundamental right that all governments must deliver.

Jaishankar further highlighted India's permanent commitment to Mauritius's well-being, connectivity, and prosperity. He praised Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jagnauth for his role in fostering this collaboration, which aims to elevate the quality of life for ordinary citizens. "Our partnership extends beyond healthcare; it is about connectivity, prosperity, and collective well-being," he said.

The External Affairs Minister also recognized other flagship projects undertaken by India in Mauritius, viewing them as expressions of a close relationship marked by familial bonds. According to Jaishankar, such initiatives, regardless of their scale, make a significant difference to communities.

Earlier, Jaishankar met with former Prime Minister of Mauritius, Paul Berenger, to discuss contemporary global issues and appreciated Berenger's support for strengthening ties between the two nations. Jaishankar arrived in Mauritius for a two-day visit, expressing gratitude to Mauritius' Foreign Minister Maneesh Gobin for the warm welcome and looking forward to further productive engagements.
