Nepal's newly appointed Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli, is scheduled for a vote of confidence on July 21, a week after taking office. The 72-year-old chairman of the CPN-UML, Oli, was appointed by President Ram Chandra Paudel on July 14 following Pushpa Kamal Dahal's failure to secure parliamentary confidence.

Oli, who was sworn in for his fourth term on July 15, has informed the Parliament Secretariat about the upcoming confidence vote. According to CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula, the early vote of confidence will ensure that Oli can work comfortably. As per the constitution, a Prime Minister must secure a vote of confidence within 30 days of appointment.

Backed by the Nepali Congress and smaller parties, Oli submitted signatures from 165 lawmakers to demonstrate majority support. Nepal's constitution requires a Prime Minister to have the backing of at least 138 members in the 275-member House of Representatives. Oli first became Prime Minister in 2015 and has held the position multiple times since.
