Vice President Kamala Harris extended her congratulations to GOP Ohio Senator JD Vance via voicemail on Monday after his selection as the Republican vice presidential pick was announced on Truth Social by former President Donald Trump, reports The New York Post. Harris conveyed her best wishes and expressed hopes to see Vance at the CBS News debate, confirmed a Biden-Harris campaign official.

The Biden campaign has agreed to a vice presidential debate hosted by CBS News, although the Trump camp is advocating for a Fox News debate instead. The Republican National Committee delegates, during their Milwaukee convention, unanimously nominated Vance as their official GOP vice presidential candidate.

According to CNN, Harris welcomed Vance to the race and congratulated him on his selection. Should he be elected alongside Trump, Vance would become the second youngest vice president in American history, The New York Post reported.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump explained his decision: 'After lengthy deliberation and thought, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator JD Vance of the Great State of Ohio. JD honourably served our Country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association.'

Trump further highlighted that Vance's book, 'Hillbilly Elegy,' became a major bestseller and movie, adding, 'JD has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and beyond.'
