An Islamabad district and sessions court ordered the release of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Iddat case on Saturday, according to Dawn.

The judgment, delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka, came after reserving the verdict earlier in the day. The court stated that if they are not wanted in any other case, they should be released immediately.

Earlier this year, Khan and Bushra were sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rs500,000 each following a trial that found their marriage to be fraudulent, based on a complaint by Bushra's ex-husband. Their conviction was widely criticized, and they had appealed against the sentence. The recent court decision clears the final legal hurdle keeping Khan in jail, following multiple acquittals in other cases.
