Local land owners and cattle herders in the Pakistan-Occupied Gilgit Baltistan (PoGB) are staging protests against alleged land-grabbing orchestrated by the Pakistan government in 2009, Pamir Times reported. The protests occurred in the Kilishaye Minimerg area of the Astore district.

Protestors have called out the government, describing the 2009 settlement as a "bogus document" signed by local leaders and the land mafia. A protestor stated, "This settlement was the only document from that era where land was grabbed in kilometers rather than in kernels, acres, and hectares, proving its fraudulent nature."

They demand that the government issue a notification to cancel the order and punish the culprits. Local village leader Gulam Haidar Khan supported the demand, emphasizing, "Our livelihoods depend on this decision, and we will escalate the matter if the administration does not take adequate action. We demand the return of lands taken in 2009 and peace for our community."

Similar protests in Skardu's Olding area saw locals demanding the completion of delayed projects. Frustrated residents, including youth, women, children, and business community members, emphasized the long-standing neglect of infrastructure projects.

Local leader Shiaz voiced the public's frustration, stating, "These projects are vital and have been stalled for three years. Despite raising concerns, we've been ignored. We won't back down until our demands are met." Protesters highlighted dilapidated roads and severe load shedding issues.

Protesters pointed out, "Despite contributing water resources for electricity generation at Satpara Dam, Olding has received no power." Another protester lamented, "Our city resembles a graveyard due to unfinished projects. The local administration's delays and broken promises have left us in disarray."
