In a decisive move, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) in Thane district, Maharashtra, has intensified its campaign against unlicensed medical practitioners by filing police complaints against five individuals over the past two months, officials disclosed on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off from district authorities, the civic body's health department, led by Dr. Mohini Dharma, launched a verification drive scrutinizing the credentials and certificates of 26 suspicious doctors. This effort led to the exposure of eight bogus doctors last year and an additional five in recent months.

The police have registered First Information Reports (FIRs) based on these findings, initiating further investigations into the matter. Between 2017 and 2024, five more fraudulent doctors were identified in the area.
