A Yemeni patient's life drastically changed following a complex surgical procedure to remove a massive 10.3 kg tumour from his abdomen. Once told his condition was beyond treatment, 58-year-old Md Abdullah Hussain now has a new outlook after a successful operation at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram.

Dr. Amit Javed, heading the six-hour operation, discovered a 35 x 26 cm gastrointestinal stromal tumour that had completely consumed Hussain's stomach. The daunting procedure required a gastrectomy, with Dr. Javed constructing a new stomach using sections of the small intestine.

The tumour had displaced vital organs, exposing Hussain to severe risks, including potential internal bleeding. Despite these dangers, the medical team executed a successful surgery, allowing Hussain to recover and return home just nine days post-operation.
