In a concerning revelation, a senior minister disclosed that 46 people, including three women, have died from drug abuse in the current financial year. The disclosure was made during an assembly session on Tuesday.

State Excise and Narcotics Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar reported that since the first drug-related fatality in 1984, a total of 1,884 individuals, including a significant number of women, have died from substance abuse. The government has seized considerable amounts of narcotics, including heroin and Methamphetamine, in efforts to combat the crisis.

The state government is aggressively fighting the drug menace with the aid of civil society organizations, focusing on tackling notorious drugs such as heroin, which has displaced Spasmo-proxyvon and Parvon Spas as primary threats. The state's strategic position bordering Myanmar adds complexity to the enforcement challenges.
