In a bid to enhance security on its premises, AIIMS, Delhi, has initiated a pilot project involving the installation of artificial intelligence-powered CCTV cameras. This move comes in response to a rape and murder incident at a hospital in Kolkata, prompting a review of AIIMS's security measures.
Director Dr. M Srinivas spoke with the media, explaining that the AI-enabled cameras are strategically located at key entry and exit points, including the Emergency and Mother and Child Block. These cameras, equipped with facial recognition technology, will help in identifying unauthorized individuals entering the campus.
In addition to the security measures, AIIMS is set to expand its capacity by adding a new Critical Care Block with 200 beds. This expansion aims to reduce the pressure on the current Emergency ward, which frequently struggles to accommodate the 700-800 patients it receives daily.
