Tragedy struck at Asha Grih, a state-run shelter home in Patna, as two individuals lost their lives and 13 others fell ill due to suspected food poisoning, according to official reports received on Wednesday.

The victims, a 24-year-old woman and a nine-year-old girl, reportedly consumed contaminated breakfast on November 7 at the facility for differently-abled women in Patel Nagar. Both were admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital, where they succumbed on November 7 and November 10, respectively.

The Social Welfare Department-run facility has launched a high-level investigation, led by an additional district magistrate, to identify the cause. District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh affirmed that strict action would follow for those found accountable, with eight of the affected still under hospital care.
