The Tamil Nadu government has announced a significant enhancement of health infrastructure across the state, with the establishment of 50-bedded Critical Care Blocks (CCBs) in government hospitals located in Perambalur, Vaniyambadi, and Anaicut. This initiative forms part of a broader strategy to upgrade healthcare facilities, backed by a substantial investment of Rs 71.25 crore.
Each critical care block will be constructed at a cost of Rs 23.75 crore, facilitated through a recent government order. In addition to CCBs, the state government plans to set up new District Integrated Public Health Laboratories (DIPHLs) at various locations, including Ulundurpettai, Cumbum, and Karaikudi, at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore each, enhancing diagnostic services.
The CCBs will offer advanced medical facilities, such as intensive care units, isolation wards, and modern surgical theatres, aiming to reduce mortality rates by managing critical cases on-site. This development is expected to decrease the need for patient transfers to tertiary centers, thus improving emergency and intensive care capabilities in Tamil Nadu.
