In a tragic turn of events, six Rohingya refugees lost their lives upon landing in Indonesia's Aceh province. Nearly 100 individuals, including seven children, made the perilous journey by boat, desperate to find safety and refuge.
The local fishing community, represented by Miftach Tjut Adek, reported the grim situation to Reuters. With no immediate solutions in sight, the refugees remain stranded on a beach on Sumatra island, facing an uncertain future.
As the United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR, alongside local authorities, extend aid to the displaced, they have called upon the Indonesian government for urgent action to ensure the welfare and security of the newcomers. This influx highlights the ongoing plight of the Rohingya, fleeing persecution in Buddhist-majority Myanmar.
