Federal officials have pinpointed raw onions from a supplier as the suspected source of an E. coli outbreak tied to McDonald's that has resulted in one death and 27 hospitalizations across 13 states.
The Food and Drug Administration revealed on Wednesday that 90 individuals have fallen ill, with officials identifying these onions, used in McDonald's Quarter Pounder hamburgers, as the primary suspect. The onions were traced back to Taylor Farms in California, prompting a recall.
Health authorities confirmed that the risk for new cases is now low, thanks to the removal of these onions. Investigations continue in partnership with FDA-inspected facilities and the unnamed Washington onion grower.
