Delhi's Air Quality Crisis: Alarming Pollution Surges in the Capital

On Wednesday, Delhi reported the nation's worst air quality, with pollution intensifying to 'severe' levels across multiple areas. A dense smog engulfed the Delhi-NCR during morning and evening hours, significantly worsening the region's air quality.
According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi's 24-hour average air quality index hit a peak of 364 at 4 pm, outpacing Rajasthan's Dausa at 316 and Ghaziabad at 305. Areas such as Anand Vihar and Jahangirpuri fell into the 'severe' category.
Meanwhile, the declining air quality has caused a sharp 30-40% increase in respiratory cases. Experts highlight pollutants like PM2.5 and nitrogen dioxide, trapped by cold weather and stagnant air, as key contributors. Officials have called for emergency measures, including cloud seeding, to manage the situation.
