In a remarkable display of coordination, two organ donations were facilitated by green corridors across four locations nationwide over two consecutive days, saving the lives of eight patients with terminal organ failure, a PGIMER statement revealed.
The life-saving initiative was driven by the courageous families of young individuals who lost their lives in road accidents. Their decision to donate organs led to successful heart transplantation in Medanta, Gurugram, lungs in KIMS hospital, Secunderabad, liver in the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, New Delhi, and kidney-pancreas along with kidney transplants at PGIMER, Chandigarh.
''The collective effort displayed by all stakeholders exemplifies PGIMER's dedication towards saving lives,'' lauded PGIMER Director, Vivek Lal. The exemplary orchestration ensured timely organ allocation via the National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation, highlighting the pivotal role of teamwork and swift responses in organ transplantation.
