In West Bengal, junior doctors, accompanied by civil society members, held a mega rally to voice their 10-point demands after a colleague's rape-murder at R G Kar Medical College. The rally took place Sunday evening and called for the state's Health Secretary N S Nigam's removal among other demands.
At the fast-unto-death venue in Esplanade, protests were intensified as participants, including actors from the Bengali film and television industry, held hunger strikes in solidarity. Protesters showcased unity through placards, candlelight vigils, and traditional sounds of conch shells.
Near the Academy of Fine Arts, additional protests involved street plays, music, and poetry, emphasizing the demands for justice and improved hospital systems, including the establishment of referral systems, bed monitoring, and essential workplace amenities.
