In a shocking medical oversight, doctors at STNM Hospital successfully removed a surgical scissor left inside a woman's abdomen for 12 years, officials confirmed Saturday.
The scissor was inadvertently left during an appendix operation at the hospital over a decade ago, revealed Dr. Suresh Madan Rai, spokesperson for STNM Hospital.
A committee comprising Health department officials and hospital doctors has been established to investigate the incident thoroughly. The patient suffered persistent pain post-surgery, leading to the discovery through an X-ray, followed by successful removal of the foreign object on Thursday.
