The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called upon the West Bengal government to promptly address the demands of junior doctors engaged in an indefinite fast in Kolkata. These medics are seeking justice for the victim of a rape-murder and are highlighting issues related to their working environment.
In a show of solidarity, the IMA described the doctors' protest as an expression of courage and commitment to justice. The protest reached its sixth day with one doctor critically hospitalized. The IMA has sent a communication to its members, urging the young doctors to reconsider their severe mode of protest.
The IMA's letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee emphasized the need for a safe working environment and underscored the urgency of addressing the doctors' demands, which include better hospital facilities and systemic reforms. The medics resumed their protest, alleging unmet government promises.
