In a dramatic show of solidarity, forty doctors from Kolkata's state-run SSKM Hospital tendered their resignations on Thursday. This act was in support of medical colleagues who have been on a hunger strike since October 5, demanding government attention to their grievances.
Dr. Gautam Das from SSKM Hospital expressed concern for the health of striking doctors, highlighting the government's lack of response to their legitimate issues. Senior doctors from various hospitals also rallied at the protest site in a unified act of defiance.
Police visited the hunger strike site on Thursday at Dharmatala, Kolkata, urging the protesters to desist, citing permission issues and health risks. Despite the resignations, healthcare services are reportedly ongoing, as part of the doctors' commitment to patients.
