A junior doctor at the government-operated RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has raised alarms about discovering blood-stained surgical gloves in sealed boxes during patient treatments on Thursday. The doctor, treating a patient with an infectious disease at the hospital's trauma care center, expressed concerns about potential infection risks from such contaminated materials.

He emphasized the stains' persistence, noting, "If the stains were from mud or dirt, they would have been wiped off. But it seems these are blood stains." Such revelations have prompted the state health department's central medical supplies division to initiate an investigation into the matter.

This revelation is not isolated, as the junior doctor pointed to additional systemic issues at RG Kar, citing cases of saline bottles contaminated with fungus on September 28. The hospital has been under scrutiny following the alleged rape and murder of a medic on August 9, which had led to prolonged protests by junior doctors demanding justice and systemic reforms. The CBI is currently probing the crime and previous financial irregularities following the arrest of the hospital's former principal.
