In a show of solidarity, doctors at Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi commenced a one-day hunger strike on Wednesday, joining junior medics in West Bengal who are protesting the brutal rape and murder of a female colleague. The initiative is supported by doctors from Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, sporting black ribbons to commemorate the tragedy.
The Resident Doctors' Association of AIIMS-Delhi is further engaging in a symbolic candle march at JLN Stadium, emphasizing the collective grief and determination to address the issue of violence against medics. Aparna Setia, president of the MAMC RDA, stated that the hunger strike will take place during working hours, from 9 am to 4 pm, symbolizing their unwavering support.
The Federation of All India Medical Association voiced strong discontent with the West Bengal government's handling of the situation, rallying support for the junior doctors' front fighting for justice and safety. The protests, ongoing since October 5, were reignited after a recent attack on medics, underscoring the urgent need for protective measures for healthcare workers.
