In a bold move, nearly 50 senior doctors from RG Kar Hospital have tendered their resignations, standing in solidarity with junior doctors on a fast-unto-death protest demanding justice for a rape and murder victim associated with the institution.
Following this development, doctors from other medical colleges in West Bengal have expressed intentions to join the protest as well. Seven junior doctors have led the hunger strike, with peers conducting a symbolic 12-hour fast across the state.
The protesting doctors have outlined a formidable 10-point demand list, including the removal of the state health secretary, increased security measures, and inquiries into healthcare irregularities. The state government has promised improvements, but the doctors remain unsatisfied, continuing their calls for urgent action.
