In a significant move towards sustainable energy in healthcare research, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has partnered with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN). This collaboration is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' and aims to install solar power solutions at ICMR institutes nationwide, according to an official statement.

The Union health ministry announced that under the agreement, NVVN will be responsible for supplying, installing, testing, commissioning, and maintaining rooftop solar panels at 15 ICMR locations, with a total capacity of 4,559 KW. The project not only supports the national push for renewable energy but also promises long-term cost efficiency through a power purchase agreement offering a fixed solar tariff for 25 years.

Already, seven institutes have benefited from previous solar installations. This expanded effort is set to further reduce ICMR's energy expenses and carbon footprint. The initiative positions ICMR as a forerunner in adopting green energy within the biomedical sector, significantly contributing to India's renewable energy objectives.
