In a significant move to accelerate public health initiatives, health ministers from the World Health Organization's South-East Asia region are gathering next week to discuss urgent priorities and actionable strategies. This pivotal meeting will focus on a range of issues crucial to public health advancement in the region.

The 77th session of the WHO South-East Asia regional committee represents the annual governing forum for the member states. Attendees include health ministers, regional and global organization representatives, alongside WHO's Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Regional Director Saima Wazed. The session, occurring from October 7 to 9, aims to address key health matters like adolescent-responsive health systems.

Established agendas for the meeting include reviewing progress towards universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. There will also be discussions on expanding the South-East Asia Regional Health Emergency Fund, which has been instrumental since 2008 in supporting urgent health responses and preparedness. Progress on resolutions related to traditional medicine, workforce training, and disease control will feature prominently in the talks.
