In West Bengal, a storm is brewing within the medical community as the state health department faces a wave of complaints regarding a 'threat culture' and irregularities in the exam system at government hospitals.
These grievances have been forwarded to the State-Level Grievance Redressal Committee, established following protests by junior doctors who have been ceasing work. A total of 40 medics faced suspension due to allegations of intimidation. Six government medical institutions reported issues, reflecting a significant unrest among medical staff.
The junior doctors resumed their protest, sparked initially by a disturbing incident at RG Kar Medical College. Among the demands are better police protection in hospitals and addressing corruption in the health department. The situation underscores a broader call for systemic change in medical governance and operations in West Bengal.
