Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh on Tuesday forcefully rejected allegations of fund diversion under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, stressing that the Centre owes the state a substantial sum of Rs 249 crore.

Singh's response followed statements from Union Health Minister J P Nadda, who had urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to settle dues owed to private hospitals under the scheme.

Singh clarified that the delays in payments are largely due to technical issues brought about by transitioning to new software implemented by the National Health Agency in February 2024, and reassured that all funds are allocated for public welfare.
