President Droupadi Murmu on Monday denounced the mistreatment of healthcare professionals by patients' attendants as 'condemnable'.

Speaking at the 10th Convocation of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences, RML Hospital, Murmu highlighted the relentless efforts doctors make to save lives, especially noteworthy during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Murmu pointed out that in moments of distress, caregivers often misbehave with healthcare professionals, which she strongly condemned. She emphasized that despite their unwavering dedication, medical professionals should not be subjected to such behavior.

Drawing reference from Paul Kalanithi's autobiographical book 'When Breath Becomes Air,' Murmu noted that medical science has its limitations, and even the best efforts may not always prevent unfortunate outcomes.

She praised doctors for working under pressure and stress, sometimes appearing restless due to the demanding nature of their job. During the Covid-19 crisis, healthcare workers showcased immense bravery, risking their own lives for the well-being of others.
