The Kalamassery Medical College has decided to accept the body donation of Communist Party of India (Marxist) veteran M M Lawrence, as directed by the Kerala High Court. The body has been transferred to the Anatomy department.
In a public statement issued on September 25, Dr. Prathap S, the college's principal, confirmed that the consent for body donation was valid. He instructed that Lawrence's remains be embalmed and preserved for educational purposes, fully complying with the court's decision.
However, the decision sparked controversy. Lawrence's daughter, Asha, who opposes the donation, vowed on social media to seek justice. Dramatic scenes ensued at Ernakulam town hall, where Lawrence's body was kept for public homage, as Asha protested against handing over the body to the medical college.
