The ruling Congress and opposition BRS in Telangana clashed on Monday over the state of medical services in government hospitals.

A three-member 'fact-finding team' established by BRS to investigate the alleged deteriorating conditions at Telangana's state-run Gandhi Hospital was blocked by police. BRS Working President K T Rama Rao questioned what the Congress government might be hiding.

The BRS team, comprised of former Deputy CM T Rajaiah, ex-MLA Methuku Anand, and sitting MLA K Sanjay—all medical professionals—criticized the government for obstructing their inquiry.

"Arresting members of a fact-finding committee is unprecedented. What exactly is the government scared of—truth or their inefficiencies being exposed?" asked Rama Rao on platform X.

Congress MLA and Whip Beerla Ilaiah retorted that the BRS was simply trying to tarnish the government's reputation. He pointed out that the BRS hadn't shown concern for Gandhi Hospital during its decade-long rule and accused them of political posturing.

Among other initiatives, Ilaiah highlighted that the Congress government had increased coverage under the 'Arogya Sri' health scheme to Rs 10 lakh.
