The state of Madhya Pradesh is experiencing a significant increase in dengue and malaria cases, with 3,800 dengue and 1,500 malaria cases reported so far in 2023, according to health officials.

Deputy Director of Health Services, Dr Himanshu Jayswar, mentioned that while three to four deaths have been suspected due to dengue, they have not been confirmed. The deceased either died in other states or did not undergo the ELISA test, which is essential for detecting dengue.

From January 1 to September 20, 51,000 people were tested for dengue in the state, with Bhopal registering 250 cases and Gwalior the highest at 500 cases. For malaria, 70 lakh tests have been conducted with 1,500 positive results, though no deaths have been reported. The state operates 64 government laboratories to conduct these tests.
