Junior doctors in West Bengal have appealed to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the RG Kar hospital crisis.
The West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front has also sent their four-page letter to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Union Health Minister J P Nadda. This plea follows the rape and murder of a post-graduate trainee at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, which triggered a 'cease work' protest among junior doctors.
In their appeal, they stressed the need for justice for their murdered colleague and a safer working environment free of fear. They accused state officials of mishandling forensic and legal proceedings. Amid an atmosphere of distrust and fear, the doctors have been avoiding work within the hospital and have adopted alternative modes to provide healthcare services.
