Residents in the vicinity of an industrial zone in Thane district, Maharashtra, experienced eye irritation and breathing difficulties following a suspected gas leak from a local factory. The incident triggered a thick haze over the area.

Yasin Tadvi, Chief of the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), confirmed that the situation is now under control with no injuries or hospitalizations reported.

Panic spread as smog-like conditions were observed in the Morivali MIDC area of Ambernath town, near Mumbai, around 11 pm on Thursday. Local firefighters identified the source of the haze as a chemical company and advised residents to stay indoors. Officials traced the dense white smoke back to a phosphorous-based chemical at the factory, prompting a temporary halt in manufacturing activities.
