A father has accused a private hospital in Delhi of holding his newborn twins hostage over payment disagreements. Pankaj Mishra claims Apollo Cradle demanded an additional Rs 14 lakh after delivery despite prior agreements.
The matter escalated when senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh intervened, raising the issue publicly and lodging a complaint with the Delhi Police. The hospital, however, reached a settlement and released the babies without any additional payment around 5:30 pm.
Initially, Apollo Cradle denied the allegations, stating that the parents were unresponsive. The newborns had been in the hospital's NICU for 50 days after their mother was discharged on July 20. The hospital had earlier advised terminating the pregnancy due to complications but managed to ensure the babies' survival.
The hospital expressed surprise at the parents' actions given the extensive care provided.
