Tragic End: Ugandan Athlete's Alleged Killer Dies in Hospital

The former partner of Ugandan athlete Rebecca Cheptegei, accused of setting her on fire, has succumbed to burns sustained during the attack. The Star newspaper reported this incident on Tuesday.
Cheptegei, 33, known for competing in the marathon at the Paris Olympics, sustained burns to over 75% of her body on September 1 and died four days later at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya. Her alleged assailant died on Monday night in the same hospital's ICU, according to The Star.
This tragedy marks the third killing of an elite sportswoman in Kenya since October 2021, casting a renewed spotlight on domestic violence in the country.
